Co-Author Your Life with God Blog-to-Book!

Visit my book blog, Co-Author Your Life with God!

I'm trying something new: I'm blogging my book as I write it before I publish it. Partly, this will help to gather stories, insights, and feedback from readers as I'm writing. But also, it will help to make this book truly the readers: feedback, questions, and insights from the readers will help to shape the book as I write it. It seems to me an ideal way to write a book--not so much for the reader, but for and with the reader.

Co-Author Your Life with God is a unique blog/book that can guide us on our discernment journeys in a way that's easy to understand and relatable for those who love a good story. We will look at discernment from the perspective of our life being the story--God's story--for us. While we explore the principles of discernment, address our struggles to discern and live God's call, and feel encouraged to trust in God's plan for us, I hope to bring in a storytelling perspective: protagonist, antagonist (guess who?), plot, setting, theme--all to help us learn to seek and live our loving God's story for us.

Since I've never blogged a book before, I'm eager for your insight and input. Come and visit my blog-to-book, pray with the other readers and with me as we seek to discern always better God's will for our lives!

Soul of Christ: Meditations on a Timeless Prayer

Pauline Books & Media, 2014.
I wrote this book to share my joy in the gift of the Eucharist and daily Eucharistic prayer: the Mass and an hour and a half of adoration. The "Soul of Christ" prayer is an easy way "in" to deeper Eucharistic prayer, and has a centuries-long tradition of being prayed during retreats and before or after receiving Communion. In addition to being part of the Jesuit tradition (St. Ignatius of Loyola included the Soul of Christ prayer in his famed Spiritual Exercises), it is also a Pauline prayer, wonderfully expressing Saint Paul's phrase, "For me, to live is Christ!", as explained by Blessed James Alberione, the Founder of the Pauline Family, who helped to make Saint Paul accessible to people today.

Each chapter includes a phrase-by-phrase meditation on one petition of this beautiful prayer and an hour of adoration that links the petition with a Scripture passage and a Eucharistic prayer from Saint Paul, Blessed James Alberione, or the tradition of the Church.

I hope you enjoy reading and praying with this book as much as I did! This book, Soul of Christ, is the fruit of my personal prayer, and my shared prayer with my community of the Daughters of Saint Paul. Saints Alive! The Faith Proclaimed

co-authored with Sr. Mary Lea Hill, fsp. Pauline Books & Media, 2013. Combining the art of dramatic storytelling with biography, Church history, and Catholic teaching and belief, this collection of stories features saints from different eras, continents, and walks of life. Each brief story highlights a particular aspect of or challenge in the saint's life and connects it to a part of The Catechism of the Catholic Church. Saints Alive! The Faith Proclaimed includes 30 stories that reveal the richness of the Christian life and offer inspirational models of the faith by showing how real people lived the eight beatitudes and seven sacraments. Along with their biographical portraits, each included saint features a prayer, a fact box, notes, lesser-known facts, and a quote from their writings. A "Reader's Guide" contains personal reflection and group discussion questions and directs you to relevant parts of the Bible and the Catechism. This unique feature makes this volume ideal for RCIA teachers and participants, adult faith formation groups, parish book clubs, and independent study, but also for individuals who are simply looking for captivating stories to read.

Saints Alive! The Gospel Witnessed

co-authored with Sr. Mary Lea Hill, fsp. Pauline Books & Media, 2013. In Saints Alive! The Gospel Witnessed, the saints take center stage, showing us how to live a Christian life through the Gospel. Each brief story highlights a particular aspect of or challenge in the saint's life and connects it to a Gospel verse. Themes include: conversion, discipleship, bearing witness, ministering to Christ, love, suffering, union with God, living the Word, and faith. Showing how real people lived the Gospel, their stories reveal the richness of the Christian life and offer inspirational models of the faith. This book's companion volume, Saints Alive! The Faith Proclaimed takes a similar approach, showing us how to live a Christian life through the example of holy-yet relatable-men and women who have lived the beatitudes and sacraments. Along with their biographical portraits, each included saint features a prayer, a fact box, notes, lesser-known facts, and a quote from their writings. A "Reader's Guide" contains personal reflection and group discussion questions and directs you to relevant parts of the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This unique feature makes this volume ideal for RCIA teachers and participants, adult faith formation groups, parish book clubs, and independent study.

Sr. Marie Paul's latest book

"This…book…. is….amazing! I have not read a prayer resource that so effectively drew me into the meditations like this book did. The second section of each chapter goes deep into the petition covered and truly provides a fantastic springboard for contemplation and prayer." - Pete Socks, from Catholic Book Blogger

Out of Print Titles

Bread of Life: Prayers for Eucharistic Adoration Written and compiled with Madonna Therese Ratliff. Pauline Books & Media, 2004. This comprehensive sourcebook for deepening one’s Eucharistic prayer includes: “prayer-starters”, readings, prayers according to theme, and three complete hours of adoration. I was thrilled when Cardinal O’Malley of the Archdiocese of Boston made this a Lenten gift to every priest in the archdiocese several years ago.

Christ Lives in Me Pauline Books & Media, 2003, Out of Print. I edited this small collection of my favorite quotations from the writings of Blessed James Alberione to highlight the vision and depth of his spirituality. These “knock your socks off” quotations are divided according to theme: prayer, Jesus Master, the Word of God, the Eucharist, and mission. A powerful introduction to a spirituality for our times in the very words of the man himself.

Life for the World–A Way of Eucharistic Adoration for Today Pauline Books & Media, 2003, Out of Print. Both an introduction and a “how-to” guide to the holistic and Scripturally-based method for Eucharistic adoration developed by Blessed James Alberione. Includes 12 hours of adoration and a selection of prayers. I’m hoping someday we’ll be able to re-release it.

“Mary’s Journey of Surrender” in The Nativity Story: Contemplating Mary’s Journey of Faith. Pauline Books & Media, 2006, Out of Print. A collection of essays written by women of diverse backgrounds on spiritual aspects of Mary’s journey, I wrote the chapter on faith and surrender at the Annunciation. The book, released simultaneously with The Nativity Story, is wonderfully complementary to the film.
